Working from Home: My New Co-Worker

Working from Home: My New Co-Worker

Meet my First Grader.  We’ve been tackling school and work together for about a month, and I don’t have to tell you that things are different from what we expected.  But I can tell you what we have done to set up a suitable space for both of us to work effectively from our new coworking space/home.

  • Standing Desk for me:  I invested in a standing desk a few years ago and am refocused on taking advantage of all of the features.  When my FitBit buzzes during my work hours to indicated that I haven’t moved enough in that hour, I try to shift to stand for the remainder of that hour.  When I take a Virtual Meeting, I move the desk higher to give a more flattering angle.

  • A Private “Desk” for her:  When it became clear we would do significant amounts of distance learning this year, we repurposed a small table that was in our son’s room to be used as a desk for our first grader.  Now she also has a private place to take her own virtual meetings.  Bonus…when we moved the kitchen set into our son’s room to replace the table, he began “making” the sweetest meals for all of us.

  • Three Monitor Workstation for me:  I honestly don’t know how anyone gets any work done on just a single screen and that’s all I have to say about that!

  • Amazon Echos for us:  With Echo devices in most rooms, my co-worker and I are able to listen to any music we desire to help us focus on our work, relax, or entertain us.  We can also use them as an intercom system to quickly speak to each other.

What are you doing to navigate the challenges of the 2020 School Year/Work Life?
